Growing up in the midwest and then going to college in New York, I have always had a pretty sizable coat/jacket/cardigan/hoodie collection. Born from my early thrifting days in Westchester and perfected in my early twenties as I bounced from party to party in the freezing cold, I just can’t seem to acquire enough.
Lucky for me, Chicago has experienced a warmer than usual winter and I can actually leave my house wearing a smart over coat as opposed to my usual layer upon layer plus boots, gloves, scarves, a knit cap, etc.
For me the most universally flattering coat length is three quarters in length and yes black is always good but as far as neutrals go, I prefer camel. I also don’t believe you can go wrong with a well made over coat in a bright color.
Like this red Zara coat and camel Bill Blass stunner. They are both sold out but I will link similar versions here after work today 🙂
